My Boss Wanted My Husband Chapter 06
Mark came back to the house that used to belong to both of us under the excuse of retrieving some limited-edition cuff links.
I was eating takeout at the table.
He sat down across from me as if he still lived there.
“So… the company party is over. Any news on your promotion?”
“Yes. Thanks to your help last time, my boss was very satisfied. The promotion notice already came through.”
He asked tentatively, “Then… your boss, Mr. Grant. What kind of person is he? At the party, he seemed pretty powerful.”
I immediately switched into praise mode, my tone full of admiration.
“Our boss is basically the standard CEO fantasy. Young, successful, decisive. Half the women in the company have a crush on him, but he barely looks at anyone. He’s as disciplined as a monk.”
Mark forced a joking expression.
“Really? He doesn’t look at that many beautiful women? He wouldn’t happen to… like men, would he?”
I pretended to be shocked and denied it at once.
“How is that possible? A boss at his level has family trusts to inherit. What use would liking men be? Men can’t have babies and continue the bloodline.”
As I spoke, I watched his face carefully.
Sure enough, when he heard “men can’t have babies,” a flash of relief crossed his face.
“True. Actually, I only tried so hard to talk to him at the party for the sake of your future. You should mention me less around him after this, in case he misunderstands something.”
I agreed readily.
“Don’t worry. I’m not important enough to talk to Mr. Grant much anyway.”
The moment he left, I reported the conversation to Victor with extra seasoning.
The phone was silent for so long I thought he had not seen it.
Then he replied with one word.
Good.
Even through the screen, I could feel the temperature drop.
The last time Victor got angry, it was because a competitor had used dirty tricks to steal our clients.
Afterward, Victor used certain “business methods.”
Not only did the other company’s stock price crash, but rumor had it that the arrogant rival was invited for a little private “conversation” by people one did not name.
He spent an entire day freezing on a rooftop terrace.
After that, he became very obedient.
I could not help worrying for Mark.
I wondered what kind of creative treatment my ex-husband would receive.
Life moved on as usual.
Then came the day Mark and I had agreed to finalize the divorce.
The process went smoothly. The official stamp came down, and five years of marriage ended.
We had just walked out of the divorce window when Lily and Mark hurried straight into the marriage registration window next door.
They came out holding their marriage certificate.
Lily insisted on dragging Mark over to show off in front of me.
“Ex-wife! Mark and I have two things to celebrate today. One, your wrong relationship is finally over. Two, our brand-new life is beginning. Let’s have dinner together. After all, this relationship between us is pretty rare.”
I looked at her smug little face, then at Mark, who clearly wanted to leave as soon as possible.
I was about to refuse when a familiar voice sounded behind me.
“What a coincidence. Looks like I arrived in time for two celebrations.”
All three of us turned.
Victor stood not far away in a perfectly cut charcoal-gray suit.
With a faint smile, his gaze slowly swept over Mark and the marriage certificate in his hand.
