My Boss Wanted My Husband Chapter 05

Back in my room, I had not even kicked off my heels before my phone started vibrating wildly.

I answered, and Lily’s voice exploded through the speaker.

“Where is Mark? Why is his phone off? What time is it? Why isn’t he back?”

I tried to sound exhausted.

“He drank too much and passed out. A male coworker from my department is staying at the same hotel, so he opened a twin suite and is taking care of him.”

“Coworker? Male or female? Which coworker? How do I know you’re telling the truth?”

“Male, obviously. Ron from our department. You should know him. Mark saw him before when he came to pick me up at the office. If you don’t believe me, I’ll video call you right now so you can see I’m alone in my room.”

I started a video call with her.

The camera swept across my empty room.

At her request, I even propped the phone at the head of the bed so she could see the whole mattress.

“Satisfied? I’m going to sleep.”

Lily said reluctantly from the screen, “Leave the video on. Don’t turn it off. I want to watch.”

So I spent the whole night under her video surveillance.

With that level of energy, she could have done anything with her life.

Yet she had chosen to be a mistress.

At dawn, the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was Lily’s face on my phone screen.

Dark circles, messy hair, horror-movie energy.

“You’re awake? Go wake Mark up. Tell him to call me right now.”

I obediently agreed, ended the video call, and washed up.

With a mix of curiosity and excitement, I walked toward Mark and Victor’s room.

I knocked.

The door opened.

Victor stood there fully dressed, immaculate as always, with a faint lazy satisfaction between his brows.

The room was filled with an ambiguous atmosphere I did not want to name.

“What is it?”

“Boss, Lily asked me to wake Mark up and tell him to call her back.”

Just then, the bathroom door opened.

Mark walked out in a bathrobe, wet hair dripping.

His face was pale. His eyes darted away, refusing to meet mine.

And the way he walked was very strange.

His waist was slightly bent, his legs oddly tense, as if every step caused discomfort.

When he saw me at the door, his face turned bright red.

Embarrassment, shame, humiliation. He looked like he wanted the floor to swallow him.

“Why… why are you here?”

Before I could answer, Victor spoke coldly to Mark.

“Call Lily.”

Then he turned to me.

“You. Wait outside.”

He shut the door in my face.

I was left outside, but my ear drifted toward the door all by itself.

Inside came the muffled sound of an argument.

Then clattering.

Something seemed to fall over, followed by a short, low grunt.

After a while, the door opened again.

Mark came out wearing yesterday’s wrinkled clothes.

Most noticeable of all, the corner of his mouth was split, with a little blood at the edge.

He looked like a frostbitten eggplant, completely drained.

He called Lily.

After hanging up, he urged me to sign the divorce papers.

Once we each had our copy, he shoved mine back into my arms and fled without looking back.

I texted Victor.

He signed the divorce papers.

The next second, a bank notification arrived.

A transfer of 150,000 dollars had been completed to my account.

Looking at all those zeros, my heart pounded again.

With trembling fingers, I replied:

Thank you, boss. So… am I done now?

Victor replied quickly, with the calm of someone who controlled everything.

Stand by.

Well.

Once on this pirate ship, getting off would not be easy.

But when I looked down at the deposit notification, then thought of Mark’s awkward walk and split lip, one thought rose uninvited in my mind.

My ex-husband’s backside was really worth money.

Good product.

Would sell again.
