Abandoned XXL Wife: My Second Husband Is A Tycoon Chapter 11
On the drive home, Charlie fell asleep in my arms.
Ethan reached over. “I’ll carry him.”
I immediately tightened my arms around Charlie.
“No, I’m fine. I’ve got plenty of strength.”
Ethan looked at me.
“Sophie. We’re married. You don’t have to be so tense around me.”
I looked away.
“Mr. Foster, I’ve been meaning to tell you this all night.”
“We’re only contractually married. You… you don’t have to get so into the role.”
“And you really don’t have to treat me this well.”
I remembered the things his parents had given me.
“Oh, and these.”
I took out the bracelet, the property documents, and the bankbook.
“Please take them back.”
Ethan covered my hand with his. “If I gave them to you, they’re yours.”
“Even if we aren’t together someday. They’ll still belong to you.”
“But they’re worth too much.”
His face was half hidden in the darkness. When he spoke, his voice was quieter.
“Sophie. What if I don’t want us to stay a contract marriage?”
I froze. My eyes widened.
“Mr. Foster, are you taking back the ten million?”
Ethan stared at me.
Then he laughed under his breath.
“If you really became Mrs. Foster, do you know how many ten million dollars you’d have?”
I shook my head.
He leaned back.
“You really don’t get it, do you?”
I lowered my eyes.
“Mr. Foster, I’ve already been married once. I learned my lesson.”
“Some circles aren’t meant for people like me.”
“So you don’t have to worry. I won’t get any ideas.”
“A man like you is way out of my league.”
“Sophie, I…”
Ethan stopped. He looked at my confused face.
Then sighed.
“Never mind. We have plenty of time.”
…
I rented out all the storefronts Ethan’s parents had given me.
Except one.
I kept that one for myself.
My designs were getting more attention every week.
Customers loved them.
I decided it was time to take my brand seriously.
When we started renovating the store, I did most of the work myself.
Ethan couldn’t understand it.
“I hired the best designer and construction crew in the city.”
“Why are you doing all this yourself?”
I grinned.
“Because I like it. It doesn’t feel like work.”
The new store was in the best spot inside the most luxurious mall in the city.
One afternoon, I climbed down from a ladder covered in dust.
I was just about to grab something to eat when I nearly walked into two elegantly dressed women.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t see you.”
One of them stared at me. Then her eyes widened.
“Sophie?”
I looked up.
I recognized her immediately.
Daniel’s mother.
My former mother-in-law.
Three years ago, when I married into the Kane family, Daniel’s father had just died.
The family didn’t have much money.
I didn’t ask for a dowry.
I took a cab to their house and married Daniel with nothing but a suitcase.
Back then, Mrs. Kane used to hold my hand and praise me to everyone.
“Our son is so lucky to have Sophie.”
“She was beautiful, smart, and one of the most popular girls at school.”
“Men lined up to date her. But she chose our Daniel.”
Then she’d sigh.
“I’m almost embarrassed that she had to marry into a family like ours.”
But everything changed after Daniel’s investments took off.
The Kane family suddenly became rich.
And Mrs. Kane was the first person to turn on me.
“I never thought you were good enough for my son.”
“Besides that pretty face, what do you actually have?”
“When I go out with my friends, their daughters-in-law are all from wealthy families.”
“They know how to make connections. They help their husbands build businesses.”
Then she’d look me over.
“You’re too soft. You can’t carry yourself like a proper wealthy wife.”
“How are you ever going to help my son?”
Now I stood in front of her in dusty work clothes.
My hands were covered in paint.
My hair was tied back.
And I owned the store she had just walked into.
