I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 13

When we were formally engaged, Julian had commissioned a pair of crystal badges from royal craftsmen.

One was a crown encircling a cedar tree. The other was a cedar tree holding up a crown. When fitted together, they showed no seam, and inside was a tiny lock that only the registered owners could access.

I held out the one that belonged to me to Iris.

She didn’t dare take it, just kept glancing at Julian.

In the end, Julian took it for her and lowered his head to study the unfamiliar badge.

“The other one was probably lost when I fell from the cliff. Once it’s found, I’ll return it to you.”

“You don’t have to. You were the one who had it made.”

Iris asked softly if she could see it.

Julian handed her the badge without much thought.

She touched something—she didn’t know what—and the hidden mechanism sprang open. Instinctively, she squeezed too hard. The crystal cracked from within and shattered across the ground.

Iris burst into tears.

“I didn’t mean to.”

Tessa sneered. “Of course not. You just suddenly developed enough werewolf strength to crush crystal.”

I told her to be quiet and crouched down to look.

“You triggered the security lock. It only accepts my fingerprint. If you try to force it, it breaks.”

Back then, Julian had told me the pair of badges would recognize only the two of us. I had thought it was just romantic talk. I hadn’t expected the craftsmen to actually build such a feature.

But it no longer belonged to me. Shattered or not, it had nothing to do with me.

Julian stared at the fragments on the ground as though struck by a sudden pain. Rubbing his forehead, he said quietly, “If it’s broken, it’s broken.”
