I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 12

I stared at the words on the screen, speechless for a moment.

Tessa handed out food vouchers and basic supplies, changing the reason for the celebration with each round.

“Let’s celebrate Genevieve’s upcoming twenty-first independence oath ceremony!”

“Let’s celebrate her getting more beautiful every day!”

“Let’s celebrate her regaining the freedom to choose her own mate!”

That last line successfully let everyone in the vicinity know exactly who I was.

The same people who had been gossiping about how I’d been cast aside were now praising Cedar Ridge’s generosity and lamenting that the royal family had lost an ideal future queen.

The swing in public opinion was expected, but Tessa’s boldness still made me laugh.

Julian’s car was stuck outside the square, blocked by the crowd. He had clearly heard the word “freedom,” and his expression was grim.

I let Tessa continue.

At the edge of the crowd, I saw Iris.

She seemed to have no idea what was happening. Seeing everyone else accepting free food, she took a voucher too.

Julian spotted her quickly and went to pull her aside.

“Why are you here?”

Iris clutched the voucher, at a loss.

“I came to find you.”

Julian told her to give it back. As if it were burning her hand, she immediately shoved it at the person next to her.

I walked over and held out my palm.

Resting there was a smoky-violet crystal badge, carved with a cedar tree at its center and encircled by a crown.

“A food voucher is nothing. I have something much more important to give you.”

“This was the engagement token Julian and I exchanged.”
