After watching everything, Julian let out a helpless sigh.
“Miss Carver, are you done throwing your tantrum?”
“I’m not throwing a tantrum.”
I got back into the car and spoke to him through the open door. “I’ll consider Julian dead here. As if he was never found.”
I never would have said something like that in the past.
But now, he and the royal family owed me. Ironically, it was one of the few times I could afford to be willful.
His face went deathly pale. On the return trip, he refused to ride with me, taking another SUV with the royal guard instead.
I didn’t look at him again.
By the time we returned to the city, Tessa had already dealt with the items for auction. She excitedly showed me the total.
Her parents ran a chain of stores; bookkeeping and event planning were her specialties.
I set the last old commemorative badge spinning on the table.
“Donate every cent. Stage it as a public event in the same neighborhood where those people were gossiping about me.”
Tessa’s eyes lit up.
She didn’t just transfer the money. She contacted nearby small businesses, food trucks, and charities, then hired a street band.
Half an hour later, the giant screen in the square lit up.
“Miss Genevieve of Cedar Ridge has regained her freedom and invites the entire district to celebrate her new life!”
