I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 16
My explanation was brief.
“She slipped. It had nothing to do with me.”
Julian turned to Iris.
“Is that true?”
But Iris only lowered her head and kept sniffling, saying nothing. She looked exactly like someone too intimidated to admit the truth.
Julian’s voice turned cold.
“I never thought you’d do something like this. Iris would never hurt anyone. Apologize to her, and this ends here.”
I looked at her again.
When she first came to the capital, her eyes had been clear. In just a few months, she had already learned how to use silence to let others convict someone in her place.
I didn’t want to argue, but I refused to be humiliated.
“I’m sorry. This is my fault.”
Both of them froze.
I continued, “I shouldn’t have been walking down a public corridor, and I certainly shouldn’t have appeared anywhere near Miss Bell. Next time, if she’s present, I’ll check her location in advance and stay three miles away.”
Their expressions darkened.
I had Tessa pluck the red plum branch for Iris.
Tessa rose onto her toes, wobbled twice for effect, then cried, “Oops!” and collapsed dramatically on the perfectly flat ground.
She secretly pinched her own thigh, and tears sprang to her eyes.
“Genevieve, someone startled me! You have to stand up for me.”
As she spoke, she shot a deliberate glance at Iris.
