I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 17

I turned on Tessa coldly.

“You fell on your own. Who are you trying to blame? Get up. Do you think Julian can’t see what you’re doing?”

Julian looked utterly grim.

Tessa climbed to her feet, muttering under her breath, “How could I dare compare myself to a truly timid creature? When that rabbit you had as a child got jealous, all it had to do was thump its foot and the whole estate could hear it.”

She made me laugh. My frustration at being falsely accused dissolved.

I took the red plum branch, walked steadily over to Iris, and tucked the blossom into her coat’s buttonhole.

“I’ve apologized, and I’ve given you a gift. Is Your Highness satisfied?”

A burst of applause sounded from the end of the corridor.

Prince Adrian approached with a smile.

“Wonderful. If the same patch of non-slip flooring can make two ladies fall one after another, perhaps the manor should sue the construction company.”

With one sentence, he made it clear that Iris had simply slipped.

Julian shot her a look of disbelief, then turned back to me and apologized.

“I’m sorry. I misunderstood.”

“It’s all right. Whether you believe me or not has nothing to do with me anymore.”

He went still.

Adrian immediately began praising my red gown, saying it outshone the entire garden of red plums. I only nodded politely.

Before I left, I looked at Iris one last time.

“That coat you’re wearing—if I remember correctly, it was a birthday gift I gave Julian. In the lining, in one corner, there’s a very ugly little cedar tree embroidered into it.”
