I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 18
The coat had originally been embroidered with a beautifully detailed cedar branch.
But Julian had made me angry, so I’d stayed up all night undoing the stitching and turning it into a crooked little tree stump instead. The royal staff knew nothing about it, so when they inventoried the gifts, the coat had slipped through the cracks.
Iris went rigid, clearly unsure whether to keep wearing it or take it off right there.
Julian hadn’t known I’d made it by hand, either.
“One hundred thousand dollars. I’ll buy it from you.”
“I’m not short on money, and I don’t need clothes someone else has worn. Give it to her.”
Iris’s face turned white.
Julian thanked me for her in a low voice.
I didn’t spare them another glance.
A large crowd had gathered in the center of the conservatory. I took my seat with Stella Ward, the daughter of the Royal Guard commander, and soon joined the conversation among the younger wolves.
Stella was outstanding in every way—pedigree, ability, and looks—and was also one of Celeste’s ideal candidates for a daughter-in-law.
She leaned close and whispered, “The winner of today’s charity music showcase gets that rare red plum tree. Do you want it?”
The winner wouldn’t just get the flower; they’d also be publicly acknowledging Adrian’s faction.
I smiled.
“Pretty flowers are always welcome. But Cedar Ridge’s greenhouses aren’t lacking for rare plants. Better to leave it for someone who needs it more.”
“That’s exactly how I feel.”
We exchanged a smile.
