I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 02
I didn’t spare the wedding gown another thought. I went straight to my father.
The attack had taken place in a communications dead zone near the border of the Ironcliff pack. Julian’s phone and tracker were both destroyed in the fall. Silver weapons were found at the scene, and the rain had washed away all scent trails. The royal guard was already searching along the river.
For the next month, I slept only two or three hours a day, glued to encrypted news feeds and guard reports, terrified of missing a single update.
On the thirty-first day, Julian was finally brought back to the royal castle.
I heard he was badly injured. I didn’t even change out of my sweater before driving straight to the royal medical wing.
I was a frequent visitor, and the security system had always retained my access. But that day, for the first time, my electronic pass flashed red.
Owen Reed, captain of the royal guard, stood in front of the door and looked deeply uncomfortable.
“Genevieve, they’re treating his wounds. You should come back later.”
Owen had never been a good liar. He couldn’t even meet my eyes.
I forced down the uneasiness coiling in my stomach.
“I’m his fiancée. I have the right to know the extent of his injuries.”
Unable to come up with another excuse, Owen contacted the control room and had the doors opened.
The sharp smell of disinfectant hit me first, followed by the faint, metallic scent of blood.
Beside the hospital bed, a young girl held a cup, carefully helping Julian sip water from a straw.
I stopped in my tracks.
Her back was to me, so she didn’t notice my arrival. But Julian lifted his eyes and stared at me with open wariness, as if I were a stranger.
“Who are you? Who let you into my medical suite?”
My wolf stirred uneasily in the back of my mind.
He didn’t remember me.
I kept my voice steady. “I’m Genevieve Carver,” I said softly. “Your fiancée.”
His face went white.
He didn’t look at me again. Instead, he rushed to explain to the girl.
“Iris, I don’t know her. I don’t like her. Please, don’t misunderstand.”
