The board then issued a statement acknowledging that the notice revoking authorization had been received before the new fundraising page went live, and announcing that Mr. and Mrs. Mercer would no longer participate in public-facing foundation publicity.
No one accused Camille of academic fraud.
But the fundraising tied to her project was forced to stop, and the university removed the celebration dinner photos it had posted jointly with the foundation.
That photo of her in the silver dress, standing between the two logos, had once been printed by my mother and placed all over the living room.
Now the first people to take it down were the very institutions she had been trying so hard to impress.
At the Mercer dinner table, for the first time, no one said a word.

“Happy now? If you hadn’t handed over the wedding files, the board never would have known those details!”
Grant didn’t touch the phone.
“The injunction was based on the revoked image authorization, not my statement.”
