He Left Me For My Sister Now He Begs For Me Back Chapter 33

As we drank celebratory champagne, I asked, “So, when did you decide you wanted to marry me?”

His hand stilled.

“Rebecca didn’t tell you?”

“She said you had to tell me yourself.”

Gavin was quiet for a moment.

“During the Pinewater Pack flood.”

“So it really was because of the accounts?”

“At first,” he admitted. “But later, I saw you at the relief site.”

I blinked.

“When?”

“After your father got sick. You were wearing a volunteer’s jacket and went to the aid warehouse with his assistant.”

I remembered at once.

The number of victims was overwhelming, and suppliers had falsified their inventories. I hadn’t revealed I was a Council official’s daughter, just used a temporary work pass to check the goods. I’d nearly been thrown out by security.

“You saw me then?”

“I did.”

“Why didn’t you say anything?”

Gavin glanced at me.

“Because you were in the middle of yelling at someone.”

My face grew hot.

“I was not yelling.”

With a perfectly straight face, he imitated my voice:

“‘The Alpha King approved these life-saving supplies. You people dare to steal food meant for children? How many lives do you think you have to pay with?’”

I was speechless.

That really had been me.

Gavin let out a quiet laugh.

“After that, I thought, *this* girl from the Crawford family is nothing like the one people see at capital banquets.”

I asked, “Then why didn’t you propose sooner?”

He looked at me.

“Because you were engaged. Even if the agreement was never formally claimed, I had no right to interfere. The night I heard the Black family had switched fiancées, I sent a message to my mother. The next day, I thought it was too rushed, rewrote it three times, and in the end, still asked Rebecca to find out if you were willing first.”

My nose stung.

He frowned.

“What’s wrong?”

I shook my head.

“Nothing.”

It was just that, for the first time in my life, I knew what it felt like for someone to want me, and to ask if I wanted them, too.
