I Sold His Gifts To Leave My Mafia Husband Chapter 13

By the Vitale family’s rules, surrendering a weapon and dropping to one knee meant placing yourself entirely at another’s mercy.

He knelt, spreading his hands wide.

The shop owner next door was unloading produce. The flour delivery driver stood at the curb. A few early-morning pedestrians stopped to stare.

All they saw was a disheveled man in a dark coat.

What I saw was a man who was raised from childhood as an heir, handing over the right to decide his fate for the first time in his life.

“Daisy, I’ll do anything you ask.” His voice was shaking. “I’ll apologize to Pearl. I’ll repay every cent. I’ll find her the best doctors in the world. If you want my position, my assets, even my life… they’re yours.”

“Your life can’t make her recognize me again.”

“Your money can’t either.”

“She doesn’t know who you are.”

“She barely knows who *I* am anymore.”

“That’s what you got in exchange for the twenty-two thousand dollars you stole from her protection account. Did you think handing over a gun and kneeling on my doorstep would make her call my name one more time?”

Matteo lowered his head as his tears fell, darkening the stone pavement at his knees.

I crouched in front of him.

“Listen carefully. This is the last time I will ever speak to you about us.”

“Our marriage didn’t end when you slept with Bianca.”

“It didn’t end when you signed the divorce papers, either.”

“It ended the moment you drew a line through my grandmother’s name on the protection ledger. It ended when you chose that necklace over her.”

“What you took from me wasn’t money.”

“It was the last few months she had left to recognize me with some dignity.”

“There is no forgiveness for that.”

I stood up.

“Take your gun and go. Don’t ever come back.”

I went inside the shop and pulled the shutter all the way down.
