The Diary Of An Unloved Wife Chapter 06
He turned around, his gaze brushing past Harlow to look further away.
When he didn’t see that familiar figure, his lips pressed into a thin line.
Harlow felt very wronged.
“Why are you walking so fast? I’m still pregnant.”
Only then did Beckett quietly pull his gaze back and let it land on her again.
“Sorry, it was my oversight.”
He reached out to support the woman, but he was distracted, not knowing what he was thinking about.
“The child you are carrying is Mason’s. I won’t let anything happen to you, and I’ll make sure you and the baby are provided for.”
Hearing him draw such a clear line between them, tears suddenly filled Harlow’s eyes. She clenched her hands tightly, her nails digging into her palms.
She bit her lip.
She knew he was warning her not to harbor unrealistic fantasies about him.
Warning her that he had no love for her, only a debt he owed Mason.
But how could Harlow accept this!
Mason was dead, and he had left her with nothing but his last name and an insurance payout. But behind Beckett was the entire Whitmore empire—the trust funds, the foundations, this house.
She had finally managed to get her hands on a man like this. How could she be willing to stay by his side as a nobody without even a title!
But she didn’t dare to argue and could only nod. “I understand.”
After Beckett dropped her off, he also went home.
But he didn’t get out of the car. Instead, he sat in the car, quietly gazing at the house with mixed emotions.
He was afraid to go back in.
He was afraid that if he went in, what he would face was Iris’s face filled with disgust, the one that wanted nothing more to do with him.
He lowered his head and took off the locket around his neck that he never showed to anyone.Â
