He gripped the fish knife so tightly his knuckles were white.
“Take a good look at yourself. You think someone with your background can be my girlfriend?”
“You should be grateful I was even willing to play with you for a few days.”
Matteo had run out of patience.
He raised the knife and rushed at me.
I turned and bolted from the cabin, locking the door behind me.
I had planned this escape route before I ever went in with him.
Now they were all trapped inside.
Matteo went ballistic, slamming his body against the door.
“Cosima Vale! Open the door! I’m not letting you get away with this!”
What a shame.
I’d thought I might actually finish the task this time.
I went to the helm.
No one was there.
The yacht sat on a quiet stretch of open sea.
Nothing but water in every direction.
I couldn’t help but smile.
So he was fighting back this time.
Fine. I’d drag this out a little longer.
I reached up and pulled the main breaker for the yacht.
In an instant, the darkening sea plunged into total blackness.
Only a faint light remained on the horizon, about to vanish.
The system wailed in my head.
“What are you doing? Don’t tell me you’re planning to wait until it’s fully dark, then go in and kill him.”
“He’s stronger than you, and he has a knife. You can’t win.”
