People around us began whispering. Some of them laughed.
Matteo’s father slammed a hand on the table.
“Who do you think you are? Don’t imagine that knowing my son for a few days means you can worm your way into the DeLuca family. We would never accept someone from your background.”
But Matteo started trembling even harder.
He nodded desperately.
“Yes. I agree. I really agree.”
So this was what it felt like to force someone to say yes.
I said to the system, “I finally understand how to make someone agree.”
The system was utterly defeated.
Matteo’s father’s expression changed.
“I told you long ago that you will marry according to the family’s arrangements. I will not allow you to be with a girl like this!”
Matteo shook his head frantically.
He kept repeating the same lines over and over.
“I’ll do it… I really will… just stop hunting me down and killing me… whatever you want, I’ll agree…”
Step by step, I walked toward him.
Each step I took made him shake harder.
