You Shipped Me Off I Married Your Boss Chapter 08

Brian turned to Madison.

“I thought you and Skylar were close.”

“Close? I couldn’t stand her.”

Now that everything was settled, Madison wasn’t bothering to pretend anymore.

Getting close to Skylar had always been a tactic.

Gain her trust. Make her listen. Push her into making a fool of herself.

No need for the act now. It felt good.

She didn’t notice the shift in Brian’s expression. She kept going.

“You know what, Brian? Stay with Natalie. I’ll deal with Skylar.”

“I promise I’ll make sure she’s completely humiliated.”

“And how exactly are you planning to do that?”

“Have security throw her out.”

“Everyone knows she’s here to ruin your engagement. Word gets out, her dead parents will probably crawl out of their graves from shame—”

Brian’s hand came up.

The slap rang out sharp and clear.

Everyone froze.

Especially Natalie.

She frowned. Something dark moved behind her eyes as she watched him.

“Brian! Why did you hit me!”

Madison shrieked, clutching her face, tears bursting free.

“Skylar is my sister in name. And yours too.”

His voice had gone cold and hard.

“She’s been a ward of this family for over a decade. You humiliate her like that, Madison, and you think the Crawford name comes out clean?”

“Why are you defending her? You hate her!”

Madison sobbed, furious and wronged.

“If you didn’t hate her, we never would’ve dared talk about her that way.”

Brian stood there. Silent. A long time passed.

Did he really hate Skylar the way they all believed?

But when she first came to the Crawford house, their bond was the strongest.

She fell and scraped herself up—he was the one who coaxed her into stopping her tears, carried her home on his back.

Kids bullied her at school—he was the first one there, standing between her and them.

Even her first period, he was the one who bought her pads.

Skylar had leaned on him for everything.

As she got older, her possessiveness only grew fiercer.

And he liked it. At first. He liked how she clung to him.

When did that change?
