You Shipped Me Off I Married Your Boss Chapter 15

I stiffened for a second.

But his palm was warm. Dry. His grip strong.

And something in me settled. Like this was exactly how it should be.

From a distance, Aunt Helen saw us walking hand in hand.

Her face broke into a smile, pure relief.

She rushed forward before we even reached her.

Pulled me into her arms. Her tears came fast.

“Skylar. You look so much like your mother when she was young.”

My own tears broke free.

Her scent was lovely. Lily of the valley and warm amber.

Just like the fading memory of my mother’s perfume.

Liam stood to the side, shaking his head with a helpless look. He offered us a handkerchief.

“Aunt Helen. The two of you clinging to each other crying—people will think my father and I have been mistreating you.”

Aunt Helen had married Liam’s father when she was thirty-eight.

She’d never had children of her own.

She treated her stepchildren as her own flesh and blood.

Liam had always respected her.

I knew all of this.

So I couldn’t understand why he’d agreed to this arrangement.

It had nothing to do with him.

But Aunt Helen told me not to worry. That I’d understand in time.

So I stopped asking.

Aunt Helen laughed, wiped my tears, then took my hand firmly.

“Skylar. Come home with me.”

I looked at Liam instinctively.

He was watching me. The oaks stretched behind him, deep green.

His eyes held a gentle warmth. He reached out his hand.

“Skylar. Let’s go home.”
