You Shipped Me Off I Married Your Boss Chapter 16

Twenty minutes before six o’clock, Natalie was fully dressed and made up.

But Brian still hadn’t come down from the upstairs lounge.

Natalie hesitated, then walked over.

The door wasn’t fully closed. Voices drifted through.

Natalie leaned in.

“Brian, so Skylar’s really not coming back?”

“If she was going to, she’d be here by now. Even a supersonic jet couldn’t get her here in time.”

“Brian, I’ve wanted to ask you this for a long time.”

“Do you really feel nothing for her? You grew up together. She’s beautiful. Devoted. All she’s ever seen is you.”

Natalie held her breath.

A long silence. Then Brian’s voice.

“Nothing.”

“Would you have feelings for a high schooler?”

Brian scoffed.

He was five years older than Skylar.

Skylar had been in second grade when she came to the Crawfords.

Even later, when she grew up, got beautiful—

He thought of prom night.

He must’ve been possessed. Let her bewitch him into that kiss. Let her press that brooch into his hand.

“But she’s stunning now.”

“Yeah. A bunch of my buddies are interested in her.”

“Remember that equestrian competition last year?”

“Of course. She wore that dark blue riding outfit. Took the championship.”

“I can still see her standing on that podium, helmet off, smiling like the sun…”

Brian remembered.
