Our convoy drove north, leaving the capital behind.
Half a day later, one of the soldiers handling rear security suddenly issued a warning over the military channel.
An SUV bearing royal insignia was racing after us.
Caleb had the convoy stop at the checkpoint on the border of Northwatch territory, then got out and positioned himself in front of my vehicle.
The SUV screeched to a stop by the roadside.
The door was flung open.
Lucian was still in his wedding suit. His collar was disheveled, his hair whipped loose by the wind. He looked like a man who had completely lost his mind.
I rolled down the window and met his bloodshot eyes.
“Audrey!”
He shouted my name hoarsely, his voice shredded by the northern wind.
“Get out of the car! Come back with me!”
Caleb blocked his way, his expression cold.
“She is already my chosen mate, and her transfer into the Northwatch Pack’s protected registry is complete.”
Lucian seemed not to hear him.
He circled around Caleb and rushed to the side of the car, grabbing my sleeve.
“Come back to the Royal Castle with me. I’ll have the Council review King Cedric’s transfer approval. I can fix this.”
