Everyone Betrayed Me While I Carried His Baby Chapter 10
I clapped my hands.
Rhys immediately escorted Jenna’s father onto the stage.
The old man’s hair was graying at the temples, his back stooped. He must have traveled in a hurry; his pant legs were caked with mud.
But when he looked at Jenna, his eyes were full of nothing but concern.
He shuffled forward, reaching a trembling hand toward her.
“Jenna, you got married? You had a baby? Why didn’t you tell your dad?”
“The last time you came home, you just suddenly said you wanted to cut ties with me. I was so worried I tried to come to the city to find you, but I fell down a hill and broke my leg.”
“Can you just tell me what I did wrong?”
Jenna stumbled backward, panic etched on her face.
Adriana immediately stepped between them.
“You have the nerve to ask? Jenna finally escaped that town, and you tried to drag her back to marry some stranger.”
Jenna’s father shook his head, desperate to explain.
“I never said that.”
“I even saved up five thousand dollars for her. I was going to give it to her for her wedding.”
He pulled a crumpled envelope from his pocket.
Inside was a stack of old bills, bound with a rubber band.
The guests’ expressions began to shift.
Low whispers rippled through the crowd.
“What’s going on? She got married and didn’t even tell her own father?”
“But she said her family was forcing her…”
“Doesn’t look that way.”
“Enough!”
Jenna suddenly screamed, grabbing a champagne flute and smashing it at the old man’s feet.
