My Fiancé Sent Me To Another Man On Our Wedding Day Chapter 20

Conrad looked at her, his gaze like ice.

“The Bennett family’s debt is covered by a formal contract. The Hawthorne family has never, and will never, accept a human being as payment.”

“We are collecting what your parents owe from the assets under their names. Your body and your freedom were never part of the deal.”

Margot’s head snapped up, her face ashen.

“That can’t be…”

“My father said the Hawthornes wanted a young woman. He said if I made the old man happy, the debt would be forgiven.”

“That marriage was a separate family matter. It was never a condition of the debt.” Conrad’s voice grew even colder. “And at the time, you were already legally married to Rafael. No one could have forced a married woman to marry someone else.”

It was as if all the strength drained out of Margot.

She stood there for a long time, speechless.

So, from beginning to end, the people who had sent her away were not the Hawthornes.

It was her own parents.

I glanced at the bruises on her arm and pulled out my phone.

Margot panicked.

“What are you doing?”

“Calling the police.”

“No.” She shook her head instinctively. “My dad said if I run, he’ll break my legs.”

I looked at her.

“Margot, you knew you weren’t the one who donated that kidney, but you let Rafael treat you like a hero. You knew that bracelet was my mother’s, but you wore it to hurt me.”

“You made your choices.”

Her sobbing hitched.

“So, no, I’m not going to pay your family’s debt. And I’m not going to forgive you.”

I pressed the call button.

“But no matter what you’ve done, you don’t deserve to be treated like property. And you don’t deserve to be beaten.”

Just as the call connected, an enraged shout came from the doorway.

“Margot Bennett, you dare call the police!”
