My Fiancé Sent Me To Another Man On Our Wedding Day Chapter 29
When the company landed its first major client, Margot came to see me.
The bruises had healed. She wore a simple white blouse and seemed much quieter than before.
She didn’t cry or put on the wounded expression she used to wear.
“I found a job,” she said from the doorway of my office. “The pay isn’t great, but it’s enough.”
“That’s good,” I said.
Seeing that I was about to leave, she called out again.
“Helena.”
“What is it?”
She pulled a photo from her bag and held it out.
It was a picture of my mother’s emerald bracelet.
Rafael had returned it to me, and I was wearing it now.
“On the wedding day, I knew it was your mother’s,” she said, looking down. “When Rafael gave it to me, I saw the text you’d sent him.”
I looked at her without speaking.
So she had known.
“But I didn’t just keep it. I took a picture and sent it to you on purpose.” Her voice was low. “I thought if I could take something from you, it meant he cared about me more.”
“It took me a long time to understand. A man who could so easily give away something that belonged to another woman’s dead mother wasn’t giving me things because he loved me.”
