My Best Friend My Husband And My Divorce Chapter 19
Three days later, Caleb, who had been bailed out, came to my door again begging for forgiveness.
But to avoid his harassment before I could file a restraining order, I moved directly into a five-star hotel.
For more than half a month, I didn’t see him.
Until my lawyer asked whether I wanted to formally submit a divorce petition to the court.
After thinking it over, I still didn’t want my personal affairs to become public knowledge.
I decided to see him one last time and get the papers signed.
In less than a month, Caleb had grown haggard.
Unshaven with sunken eye sockets and a heavy smell of alcohol.
He no longer had the high-spirited air of a Forbes tech mogul.
As soon as we met at the law office, Caleb excitedly tried to hug me.
“I really know I was wrong. Give me a chance to take you for marriage counseling!”
“We’ve had more than ten years of feelings from high school until now. Can you really bear to throw it all away?”
I laughed mockingly:
“Yes, more than ten years of feelings didn’t stop you from climbing into someone else’s bed.”
His whole body stiffened, his face suddenly pale as paper.
I continued:
“You know me – when I’ve made up my mind, no one can change it, including you.”
“Moreover, there’s the life of an unborn child between us now.”
“It’s absolutely impossible between us. Sign the papers, take your share of the stocks, and let’s part amicably.”
Caleb’s face immediately turned ashen, the light in his eyes extinguishing bit by bit.
He forced a smile, tears sliding down his haggard cheeks.
I ignored him and turned to leave the conference room.
Soon, my lawyer received the divorce agreement with his signature.
Perhaps out of irredeemable guilt, he transferred most of the real estate, trust fund assets, and company stocks under his name to me.
I accepted it all without hesitation.
The next day, I boarded a first-class flight to Rome with my passport, beginning my new life journey.Â
