The DNA Test That Backfired Chapter 06

I looked at him.

Three years ago, this was the man who had lain in a hospital bed, clutching my hand and crying that he would owe me for the rest of his life.

Now, he was parroting Camille’s accusations, shifting all the blame onto me.

Camille quickly followed up.

“Arlette, you can’t blame us for thinking the worst.”

“Anyone would be terrified after seeing how carefully you orchestrated all of this.”

“This child was a tool to control Zane from the very beginning, wasn’t he?”

“Yes.” Zane seemed to have seized on his talking point, nodding quickly. “You planned this from the start.”

“You wanted to use this child to keep both me and the Marino family’s money in your hands.”

Zane’s father’s expression was grim.

Zane’s mother clutched her chest, her eyes filled with disappointment as she looked at me.

“Arlette…” Her voice trembled. “Tell me this isn’t true.”

“Tell me this is all a misunderstanding…”

Every gaze in the room fell on me.

I took a deep breath and slowly stood.

I was perfectly calm.

First, I opened the black folio in my hands.

“Miss Camille is right,” I said, my voice even.

“Teddy is not Zane’s biological child.”

The corners of Camille’s mouth lifted, and she was just about to speak.

“But,” I said, raising my eyes to meet hers, “he is not some child of unknown origin we passed off as our own.”

I pulled out the first document and placed it in the center of the table.

“These are the court-approved adoption papers. Every procedure is complete and on the record.”

I looked around the table.

“Teddy is my late sister’s son.”
