The DNA Test That Backfired Chapter 07
The room went silent.
“My sister died of an illness more than three years ago. The child’s biological father had left long before that.”
“I am Teddy’s only guardian in this world, and his only family.”
I turned to Camille.
“I raised him as my own son. I have never denied that, and I have no need to.”
The expression on Camille’s face faltered for a second before she quickly recovered with a sneer.
“So what?” She lifted her chin. “You still hid the truth from the Marino family for three years.”
“You brought this child into the family without telling them. Isn’t that still a marriage built on lies?”
“Hid it from the Marino family?”
I looked at Zane. “Do you dare say I ever hid it from you?”
I pulled a second document from the folio and pushed it forward.
“This is our prenuptial agreement. It bears Zane Marino’s signature and the witness signature of an attorney.”
“If you don’t believe it, you can check the public record.”
Zane’s pupils contracted.
I held up the paper and read the contents aloud to the table.
“‘Both parties agree to jointly raise the child of Arlette Pierce’s late sister after their marriage.’”
“‘Publicly, the child will be regarded as their own. This arrangement is to be known only to the husband and wife.’”
After I finished reading, I looked up at Zane.
“Zane, is this your signature?”
