After He Blinded Me The Don Begged For Forgiveness Chapter 08

When we arrived at the estate, he set me down carefully in the master bedroom.

I could feel his chest heaving violently.

“Anna, let’s get your eyes treated. Please.”

“I called a specialist in Zurich yesterday. No matter the cost, I’ll fix this.”

“Whatever you want to do from now on—I’ll be there with you.”

“Don’t bother, Soren.”

I cut him off coldly, my fingers gripping the blanket.

“These eyes—weren’t they destroyed by your own hand?”

“And now you stand here, putting on this devoted act for me.”

A small, choked sound came from his throat. He wanted to say more.

But I didn’t want to hear it.

“Even when I was carrying Caroline, you couldn’t soften your heart by even a fraction.”

“Could you?”

His breath came short and ragged.

He only said, dully:

“I’ll come back to see you later.”

I sat blankly on the bed. I didn’t know how much time passed.

Finally, the doorknob turned.

A thick smell of whiskey followed.

Soren’s footsteps were unsteady. He pulled me tight against him.

“Anna, I was wrong. I was really wrong.”

“I had it all looked into. Back then…” He choked. “Back then, Serena framed you. You never pushed her.”

“Serena wasn’t blind. She and Dr. Romano had it all arranged.”

“I thought you were jealous of her. I thought you were just throwing a fit because you envied her.”

“Anna, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

He held me, his hands running over my body, again and again.

His voice trembled.

My eyes stung. I shoved him back hard.

I roared.

“What were you doing all this time?”

“Soren, I told you. There was nothing. The surveillance cameras were right there in the hallway. You didn’t even check.”

“And you murdered my Caroline!”

“Twelve years. You never believed me. Not once.”

“Not once!”

I braced my hand against the bed, my whole body shaking.

If only he had checked. The truth would have surfaced.

Instead, he chose to believe Serena’s one-sided story, and let them destroy my eyes.

He said he knew the truth now.

But now I had nothing. There was nothing left to have.

Soren lowered his head. His fingers brushed against me.

He pulled them back almost at once.

It was as though he had suddenly realized something.
