After He Blinded Me The Don Begged For Forgiveness Chapter 09

“I didn’t.”

“I never meant to hurt the child.”

“I arranged for doctors on site. I arranged for food.”

I clutched at my chest, breathless with grief. I laughed coldly.

“Then why?”

“Why did my Caroline die?”

I tugged at the corner of my mouth. Even breathing hurt.

I smiled, wiping at my tears.

“Soren, do you know what?”

“The day I caught you with your mistress, my first thought was that I could use the child to bind you to me.”

“To prove I still had use.”

“Stupid, wasn’t it?”

“I never managed to bind you. In the end, I lost Caroline, and I lost my eyes.”

Soren was silent for a long time.

Finally, he touched my forehead.

His voice was rough.

“Anna, I’ll make this right. I promise.”

He picked up the phone with shaking hands and dialed Serena.

“Where are you?”

A laugh came through the line.

“At the range. I’ve won a few rounds.”

“What’s wrong? Missing me?”

Soren took a deep breath.

“I’ll ask you once. The doctors with Anna in the Hudson Valley—did you have them pulled out?”

“And the blindness—why did you fake it? Why did you frame Anna?”

There was a moment of silence on the other end. Then a sudden laugh.

“Sal, what are you talking about? I don’t understand.”

“Aren’t you and I like brothers? Why would I frame Anna?”

“Serena.”

His voice dropped. “I’ll give you one more chance. Tell me the truth.”

A soft laugh came through. And then, the admission.

“I was weak then, and the babies were fragile. So I had the doctors come back.”

“Besides, didn’t you say she was healthy? Doctor or no doctor, it didn’t matter.”

“As for the eyes—I was just worried she’d do something to my children. You know how mothers are. They’ll do anything for their babies.”

Soren exploded.

“So you lied to me. And you destroyed her!”

“Do you have any idea? The child is dead!”

There was the crack of gunfire in the background. Serena remained completely unfazed.

“Gone is gone. Bad luck for them.”

“And anyway, I just said a few words. You were the one who laid hands on her.”

“If you really cared about her, you wouldn’t have waited this long to look for her.”

“You played around with me under the guise of brotherhood. The one who wronged her most—it was you.”

Before Soren could respond, the line went dead.
