After I Saved Him My CEO Said We Were Strangers Chapter 13
At 1:17 in the morning, someone was calling me.
Reed Blake.
I stared at his name for a long time.
Long enough for the screen to go dark, and then light up again with the incoming call.
In the end, I answered.
At first, there was only the sound of his breathing on the other end.
Heavy. He’d been drinking.
When he finally spoke, his voice was rough.
“Blair.”
Just my name, spoken in that voice, made my heart clench.
After a few seconds, he asked, “Why?”
I forced my own voice to remain steady.
“I don’t like New York anymore.”
“That city… it makes me never want to go back.”
A long silence stretched between us.
Then he asked, “What about me?”
He paused.
“Do you not care about me anymore?”
I parted my lips, but my throat felt sealed shut.
A cool draft slipped through a crack in the window, raising goosebumps on my skin.
And in that moment, I found I couldn’t bring myself to say anything cruel.
In the end, all I said was a soft, “Reed, I just want to forget you as quickly as I can.”
The line went quiet for a very long time.
Then he hung up.
I held the phone to my ear, listening to the dead air. The tears I’d sworn I wouldn’t shed slipped down my cheeks anyway.
I pressed the phone to my chest, curled into a ball, and cried until I was empty.
This was the last time.
The last time I would ever cry over him.
Reed Blake, the ending you gave me was never worth the love I gave you.
