After I Saved Him My CEO Said We Were Strangers Chapter 14

Reed Blake put the ring in the deepest drawer of his desk.

He buried it under a stack of old contracts.

After that, he never mentioned it again.

And no one dared to ask.

In the days that followed, he threw himself into his work.

Meetings, projects, clients, business trips.

His schedule was relentless, often stretching well past midnight.

Back when Blair was his assistant, she was always trailing him, lecturing him.

“You need to eat.”

“You’ve had too much coffee today.”

“Reed, if you don’t get some sleep, you’re going to have a killer headache tomorrow.”

Later, he ended up in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer.

His assistant found him.

At two in the morning, he was slumped over his desk, his face ashen, his shirt soaked through with a cold sweat.

The assistant called 911 and waited outside the emergency room all night.

The first thing Reed said when he woke up was:

“Move the morning meeting online.”

Strangely, after that, the company’s performance soared.

When the quarterly financials were released, even the old guard on the board of directors nodded in approval.

One weekend, during dinner at the family estate on Long Island, Reed’s father flipped through the report, an expression of rare satisfaction on his face.

Then he said what he always said.

“You’ve done well with the company. It’s time you thought about your personal life.”

Reed’s chopsticks paused mid-air. He said nothing.

Then his father seemed to remember something.

“By the way, didn’t you say you were going to bring your girlfriend home to meet us?”

Reed lowered his eyes, his fingers tightening around his chopsticks.

After a moment, he finally spoke. “She’s away for a while. Some other time.”

The years passed just like that.

But the girl who had never been willing to bow her head seemed as though she was never coming back.
