After Lefting Me On The Bridge He Lost His Mind Chapter 03
Truett lowered his hand.
“I’ll take you to the hospital. We can talk after your fever breaks.”
“I’ve already been.”
I slapped the receipt down on the counter in front of him.
“What is this?”
The moment he saw the name on it, his expression hardened.
“Chloe just started. She has to meet with clients. She can’t look cheap, it’s unprofessional.”
“So she needs a Rolex, and I don’t need to be treated like I matter. Is that it?”
“Mavis.” His tone sharpened. “It’s just a watch. Do you really have to keep score over every little thing?”
Chloe immediately reached for her wrist.
“Truett, maybe I should give it back to Mavis. I didn’t realize she’d care this much.”
Truett caught her hand.
“Don’t take it off.”
When he looked back at me, his brows were knitted in a tight frown.
“We’re getting married. When are you going to stop making everything into such a drama?”
That line again.
He had never needed me.
He just needed a fiancée who wouldn’t cause him any trouble.
As long as I was upset about Chloe, he saw me as the one being unreasonable.
Before, I would have tried to explain that it was never just about the watch.
But this time, I opened my mouth and found I had nothing left to say.
I was just so tired.
“Let’s break up.”
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
“Ms. Castillo? The movers are here.”
Truett’s expression shuttered.
He stared at me, his face dark.
“This little act won’t work on me.”
I knew why he said that.
In the past, whenever I’d tried to get him to take me to meet his family, I had half-jokingly threatened to leave a few times.
I just wanted to see if he would try to stop me.
But every single time, all he ever said was, “Suit yourself.”
Then he would go right back to what he was doing.
In the end, I was always the one to give in, admitting I didn’t really mean it.
After years of this, Truett had long since convinced himself I would never actually leave.
But this time, there was no turning back.Â
