After Lefting Me On The Bridge He Lost His Mind Chapter 04
As I walked out the door, Chloe’s voice drifted from behind me.
“Truett, I think Mavis is really mad this time. It’s all my fault…”
Truett’s voice was ice-cold.
“Let her go. She’ll be back in a few days.”
I didn’t turn around.
Over the next few days, Truett didn’t contact me once.
I knew he was waiting for me to break first, just like I always had.
This time, I didn’t.
I just kept packing and moved into my new apartment.
The next day, my pneumonia took a serious turn.
The fever kept spiking. My chest ached with every breath.
I checked myself into the pulmonary ward at a hospital downtown.
The room was quiet, the only sound the steady rhythm of the machines.
On the afternoon of the third day, the door swung open.
Truett strode in wearing an expensive suit, carrying a cake box from a trendy bakery.
When he saw me in a hospital gown, pale against the pillows, something flickered in his eyes.
“You’ve kept this up for three days. You even got yourself admitted to the hospital. Aren’t you over it by now?”
He set the cake on the bedside table, his tone casual, as if offering me an out.Â
