After My Fiancé Abandoned Me I Married My Stepbrother Chapter 03

Everyone except me.

Because the instant he hesitated, I woke up completely.

The hope that had just risen vanished just as quickly, leaving only cold disappointment.

Isabella’s sobs grew louder.

She suddenly dropped to her knees, both hands wrapped tightly around Vincent’s leg.

Her voice choked with desperate fear.

“Vincent, you have to choose me. I can’t go to Gray Harbor!”

“Have you forgotten? You already put the family ring on my hand!”

“We slept together last night. If the new Don of Gray Harbor finds out, he will never let me live!”

“I’ll die, Vincent. I really will die!”

Isabella’s words threw the entire square into an uproar.

People began whispering.

Their eyes, full of shock, moved between Vincent and Isabella.

A woman about to be sent to Gray Harbor, if she had slept with another man the night before, would be seen as a direct insult to Gray Harbor.

The new Don of Gray Harbor would never accept it.

Vincent’s body stiffened.

He looked at Isabella crying on the ground.

The hesitation in his eyes soon disappeared, leaving only pity.

He bent down, helped Isabella up, and held her tightly in his arms.

His voice was firm.

“Don’t cry, Isabella. I won’t let you go to Gray Harbor. I choose you.”

Those words were light.

But they struck my heart like a hammer.

After comforting Isabella, Vincent looked at me.

His eyes were full of guilt.

“Serafina, I’m sorry. But things have come to this. I have no other choice.”

“If Isabella goes to Gray Harbor, she will certainly die. You are the sensible one, aren’t you?”

He paused, then quickly added:

“Don’t worry. I won’t let anything happen to you. I’ll give you a route.”

“After the new Don of Gray Harbor takes you away, follow that route and escape. I’ll meet you at the end.”

I pulled at the corner of my lips.

“Then I will become a fugitive. Could someone like that still become your Donna?”

Vincent’s expression froze for an instant.

He opened his mouth.

In the end, he said:

“Stop making trouble, Serafina. This is the best option right now.”

“And even if Isabella becomes my Donna, you can still stay by my side. She is gentle. She won’t make things difficult for you.”

The best option.

But every time someone had to be sacrificed, it was me.

I pressed down my anger and slowly nodded.

“Fine. I agree. I’ll follow the route you give me and wait for you to meet me.”

Of course I would not.

I would leave this place and go to Gray Harbor.

Forever.

I looked back toward the Moretti family estate and threw away the escape map Vincent had given me.

Night deepened.

Vincent stood quietly at the meeting point he had arranged with Serafina.

Isabella stayed beside him, trying to comfort him in a low voice.

But Vincent did not hear a word she said.

All he could think about was Serafina.

Never had he understood as clearly as he did now that the woman he loved was Serafina.

When she came back, he would treat her well.

Isabella tugged lightly on his sleeve.

“Vincent, will Serafina really escape along the route you gave her? I keep feeling that she does not want to forgive you.”

Vincent let out a soft laugh.

His tone was certain, as if he had never doubted Serafina’s choice.

“Don’t worry. She’ll come.”

“We grew up together. We have more than ten years between us. She loves me. She is only angry for now.”

“Once she escapes, I’ll apologize properly. She will forgive me.”

“But Vincent, the new Don of Gray Harbor is so powerful. Can Serafina really escape alone? What if she gets caught?”

Vincent’s voice was firm.

“She won’t. The route I gave her is the safest one. As long as she follows it, she will get out.”

“And I will wait for her. I won’t let anything happen to her.”

That night, Vincent kept waiting.

But the familiar figure never appeared.
