After My Fiancé Abandoned Me I Married My Stepbrother Chapter 04

The meeting point was empty.

Wind rushed in from the street corner, making the iron gate by the road rattle softly.

Isabella leaned beside the car, Vincent’s coat draped over her shoulders.

Several times, she tried to speak.

Each time, Vincent’s cold face stopped her.

“Ten more minutes,” Vincent said.

Ten minutes later, Serafina still did not appear.

He turned and ran toward the border.

The morning fog had not yet cleared.

By the roadside, Vincent saw a folded piece of paper.

It was the escape route he had drawn for Serafina himself.

The paper had been placed neatly.

It had not been stepped on.

It had not been wet by rain.

An old cuff link pressed it down.

It was the cuff link he had given her on his sixteenth birthday.

Vincent bent down and picked it up.

Isabella quickly caught up.

“Vincent, has Serafina still not come?”

He did not answer.

Isabella glanced at the escape map in his hand, then at the cuff link.

“Maybe she is still angry. You know her. She would never really leave you.”

“I used to think that too.”

Vincent closed his fist around the cuff link and immediately called his men.

“Seal every road out of Moretti territory. Docks, stations, private airports. Do not miss a single place until Serafina is found.”

His subordinate hesitated for a second.

“Don, many families are leaving today. If we stop everyone, this will become a scene.”

“Then let it become one.”

Isabella hurried over and grabbed Vincent, crying.

“You can’t do this for her. You chose me last night. Everyone saw it. If you lock down the city now, everyone will know you regret it.”

Vincent stopped.

“I do regret it.”

Isabella froze.

Before getting into the car, Vincent made a second call.

“Go to the old Moretti estate. Find out which route the people from Gray Harbor took.”

“Also check Serafina’s passport, tickets, and flight records.”

“Don, if the old Don asks…”

“Tell him I lost my fiancee.”

The other end of the line fell silent.

Vincent closed the car door.

Dock Five was sealed first.

Then came the north station, the private airport, and the highway out of the city.

Men from the Moretti family, all in black suits, checked license plates and departure lists one by one.

Many people from other families were stopped at the crossings.

Some were angry.

Some were only watching the show.

“The Morettis are making such a fuss. What did they lose?”

“I heard they lost a woman.”

I sat in the airport lounge, waiting for the people coming to collect me.

Listening to the voices around me and watching Moretti men draw closer, I frowned.

The whispers continued.

“A woman? His former fiancee? Didn’t he choose Isabella last night? Now he’s looking for the old fiancee again?”

“That’s what makes it funny. He probably wants both women, but the old fiancee refused.”

“What does she look like?”

“I didn’t see clearly. The lights were dim last night, and she left too quickly.”

I placed my coffee cup back on the tray.

My phone screen lit up.

It was a photo from Isabella.

In the photo, her hand rested on the sleeve of Vincent’s suit. The family ring on her ring finger was deliberately clear.

There was only one line of text.

[Only the woman chosen has the right to stay. Since you are leaving, don’t come back.]

I glanced at it and turned off the screen.

Just then, an unfamiliar number called.

I answered.

On the other end was my stepbrother, Damian.

“My men have arrived. Don’t look back. Come out through Exit Three.”

I looked up through the window.

A black private jet waited on the tarmac.

Several bodyguards in black stood beside the boarding stairs.

The man at the front held a black umbrella.

His eyes did not wander.

He stared only at Exit Three.

I rose quickly.

Unexpectedly, the woman at the next table suddenly gasped.

“Wait. Are you…”

I placed a finger against my lips.

The woman immediately closed her mouth.

I shouldered my bag and walked toward Exit Three.

I had just stepped out of the terminal when Vincent saw me.

He pushed through the crowd and almost ran toward me.

“Serafina!”

I did not want to stop, but within a few steps, Vincent caught my wrist.

He was breathing hard.

“Serafina, come back with me.”

I looked at him with mockery.

“Back where?”

“Back to the Moretti family. I can explain what happened last night. I will cancel my engagement to Isabella. I will personally tell everyone that you are my Donna.”

I shook off his hand.

“You had the chance to say that last night. Now it’s too late.”

“It’s not too late!” Vincent sounded desperate. “I didn’t know it would turn out like this.”

“You knew.”

I looked at him.

“You let everything happen anyway. You chose to sacrifice me. You chose Isabella. So why come looking for me now?”

Everything before me felt absurd.

I turned to leave.

Vincent tried to grab me again, but the men from Gray Harbor arrived and blocked him.

The man at the front stood before me.

“Mr. Moretti, the Vitale family has already completed the agreement with the Moretti family. Miss Serafina must leave with us today.”
