At My Baby Shower He Celebrated Another Woman’s Child Chapter 09

Before Sadie could reach June, I grabbed her wrist.

She had barely turned before I slapped her across the face.

The sound cracked through the silent banquet hall.

“That one was for your mother—and for the woman I was when I tried to help you.”

Sadie clutched her cheek, staring at me in disbelief.

I met her gaze and said, word by deliberate word, “I was the one who anonymously paid your college tuition for four years. And after that, you were the one who begged me to bring you to parties, begged me to help you get into the Mercer family’s circle.”

The room erupted.

“You were so desperate to climb into high society that the benefactor who funded you became someone you could frame, and the mother who raised you became someone you could declare dead. Sadie, is there anyone you won’t betray?”

My mother’s face was stark white. My father opened his mouth, but no words came out. For the first time, they weren’t protecting Sadie. When they looked at me, their expressions were a mixture of shock and dawning guilt.

Too late.

I released Sadie and turned toward the banquet hall entrance.

“Don’t go anywhere. I still have one last gift.”

The doors opened again.

A tall man stepped inside, his expression grim, a sealed document envelope in his hand.

The moment Sadie saw his face, all the color drained from it.

“No… what are you doing here?”

Brooke whipped her head around. “Who is he? What else have you been hiding from us?”

I took the microphone.

“This is Caleb Reed. Sadie’s former fiancé.”

Caleb looked at Sadie with undisguised contempt.

“I’m here today to submit a court document.”
