At My Baby Shower He Celebrated Another Woman’s Child Chapter 13

When I walked out of the banquet hall, it was raining again.

June opened the car door for me, but Graham chased after us.

“Nora!”

June immediately stepped between us.

“One more step and I’m calling the police.”

“I just want to talk to her.”

He was soaked, stripped of every last vestige of the polished Mercer heir.

I held the box of ashes tighter and said to June, “Get in the car.”

Graham rushed over and grabbed my arm, his eyes bloodshot.

“Nora, I was wrong. I should never have believed Sadie, never have let you go into that cell alone, and I should never—never—have ignored the hospital’s calls.”

I shook his hand off.

But then he dropped to his knees in the rain, his voice cracking with sobs.

“Give me one more chance. I’ll make it up to you. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you and Iris.”

“One more chance?”

I looked down at him.

“So you can have another opportunity to make me lose another child?”

Graham’s face went white.

“Do you remember the college library? You were by the window, organizing your notes on child language development, and I asked if the seat next to you was taken. The whole floor was empty. I just wanted to meet you.”
