When Cayson dropped to one knee, surrounded by a sea of cheap streamers and the cloying, suffocating stench of spilled champagne, he thought he was offering me forever. He didn’t see the trap. To him, the sticky floor beneath his knee was just another “no big deal.” To me, it was the final, agonizing straw.
I didn’t cry. I didn’t scream. I just looked at the man I loved, looked at the mess he promised he’d never make again, and whispered the easiest word in the world.
