Everyone Betrayed Me While I Carried His Baby Chapter 03

I immediately called the hospital administrator.

His voice was cold steel.

“I had you at the top of my list. I never imagined your published papers involved plagiarism.”

“If Attorney Lombardi hadn’t provided evidence of these violations, you might have slipped right past us.”

It was Cassian.

Rage flooded my vision.

Ignoring my parents’ protests, I got in my car and drove straight back to the hospital.

In the ward, Cassian was humming softly, lulling Jenna to sleep.

I slammed the door open, the crash making the baby in the crib start to wail.

“Cassian Lombardi, how dare you sabotage my career?”

“You know becoming a surgeon is my dream. You know everything I’ve done to get here!”

He instinctively raised a hand to cover Jenna’s ears, his expression hardening with displeasure.

“There’s only one fellowship spot at the University of Chicago this year. Jenna wants it, too. This experience will look good on her application.”

He didn’t take my anger seriously at all.

I was so furious I could barely draw a breath. I grabbed his sleeve.

“Go to the hospital right now and tell them the truth. If you don’t, I’ll sue you for defamation.”

“You can try,” he said, a faint, cruel smile playing on his lips.

“I promise you, not a single lawyer in New York will take your case.”

“Our family isn’t short on money. You don’t need to work. Just stay home and have the baby.”

I stared at him as tears streamed down my face.

“I’ll hate you for this.”

When his eyes met mine, Cassian’s expression finally softened. He raised a hand as if to wipe away my tears.

But Jenna suddenly slipped out of bed and moved to my side.

“Cassian, let me talk to Seren.”

She linked her arm through mine, her nails digging into my skin, and whispered in a voice only I could hear.

“Seren Lombardi, your parents, your friend, your husband, even your career. They’re all mine now.”

“Did you really think it was a coincidence that a patient complained and got you suspended? Cassian arranged it. He was afraid you’d run into me at my prenatal appointments.”

“Stop fighting. You can’t win.”

“Shut up!”

I raised my hand to strike her, but a large hand clamped down on my wrist.

Cassian’s jaw was tight as he glared at me.

“Try and touch her.”

He pulled Jenna behind him. When he turned back to me, his eyes were cold.

“Get out.”

I lifted my chin and wiped my tears away with the back of my hand.

“Today, I’ll show you exactly what I dare to do.”

I went home, found my MacBook, and compiled all the evidence of Cassian and Jenna’s affair—along with the photos—into a 128-page PDF.

Then I posted the file in the comments of Jenna’s latest Instagram post and paid to promote it.

The story exploded online almost instantly.

Reporters started sliding into my DMs, asking for an interview.

Before I could reply, Cassian stormed into the room.

He yanked me out of my chair. “Seren, are you trying to ruin her? The hospital entrance is swarming with reporters.”

“You’re coming with me right now to fix this and apologize to her.”

“Why should I apologize?”

I struggled against his grip, but he only held tighter.

His face was a mask of fury.

“If you don’t go, I will personally guarantee that when it’s time for you to give birth, not a single obstetrician in this city will touch you.”

I stared at him, a sharp pain stabbing through my chest.

For Jenna, Cassian was actually threatening my life. And our child’s.

I bit my lip until I tasted blood.

“Fine. I’ll go.”

At the hospital, a ring of reporters closed in around us, their camera flashes blinding.

Jenna cowered in Cassian’s arms, the picture of terror.

I took the microphone, a cold smile on my face.

“Why would I spare someone who bites the hand that feeds her?”

“Those aren’t rumors. They’re all true. Jenna is the woman who slept with my husband.”

“I brought her here from a remote town in West Virginia and paid for her to go to college. She repaid me by sleeping with my husband and having his child.”

The scene erupted into chaos.

Jenna’s eyes instantly filled with tears.

“Seren, I have put up with you clinging to my husband for so long. I even accepted that you drugged him, climbed into his bed, and got pregnant with his child. What more could you possibly want?”

With that, she pulled a folded document from her pocket.

It was a marriage certificate.

On it were two names: Jenna and Cassian Lombardi.

“I am Cassian’s legal wife.”
