Rachel was the first to lose her patience.
A few days later, a secretly filmed video appeared on Instagram and local news feeds.
In it, a doctor had allowed me to wheel Maisie down to the first-floor pharmacy for oral care supplies. She was in a wheelchair, wearing a mask. A few people crowded around us, asking if Derek Weston was her father.
I shielded Maisie and tried to move away. The video was edited to show only the half-second where I lifted my hand, making it look as though I’d shoved a woman.
The caption read: *Weston Group President’s Ex-Fiancée Returns with Sick Child to Extort Money, Attacks Concerned Bystander.*
A nurse showed me the video.
“Someone is targeting you. You should call the police. You can also apply for a protective order.”
I contacted a legal aid attorney. She filed privacy and harassment complaints with the platforms and turned the materials over to the police.
Derek moved faster.
He had his legal department preserve all posts and account records, and his PR team demanded the platforms remove any close-ups of Maisie’s face. His lawyer contacted mine, and together they submitted an evidence preservation request to the hospital. Once the police lawfully obtained the surveillance footage, my attorney sent copies to both sides.
