He Chose Her On Our Wedding Night So I Took Everything Chapter 33

By early fall, Hawthorne Apparel had entered its final asset liquidation.

The remaining receivables, returns, and claims were handled by the book. Carrington pursued only what it was entitled to under our contracts—no more, no less.

The matter of the items Madison had taken also reached a quiet conclusion.

She returned what was left and paid the corresponding compensation. After that, she moved away from Los Angeles and was rarely heard from again.

But the chat records she had once posted didn’t disappear just because her account went silent.

Those words remained, the most direct evidence of the Hawthorne family’s attempt to use a marriage to secure a business deal.

The last time Eric came to see me was the day before our new showroom opened.

This time, he sent an email to request an appointment.

I agreed to give him ten minutes, with my assistant present in the office.

He was much thinner than I remembered, his suit hanging off his frame.

He sat down but didn’t talk about orders.

“The company’s gone.”

“I know.”

“My father still blames me. He says if I had just made Madison leave that night, none of this would have happened.”

I closed the schedule book in my hands.

“And you think that, too?”

“Isn’t it true?”

He looked up at me.

“If Maddie hadn’t hidden in the closet, if she hadn’t deliberately provoked you, we’d be married by now.”

I looked at him for a few seconds.

“You still think Madison was the only problem.”
