He Chose His Assistant So She Married Another Man Chapter 06

Daniel stood in front of the closet for a long time without moving.

Was it really that serious?

Over something this small—was it worth breaking up? Was it worth moving out?

But the moment that thought surfaced, another voice pushed its way in.

All these days, Emma hadn’t sent him a single message—and he hadn’t reached out to her either. Every time they fought about Chloe, Emma was the one who caved first. He never went to her, because he was certain she’d never leave.

When they first got together, Daniel told her he wasn’t the type to make up with someone first. And he never had. He just waited for Emma to come to him, waited for her to end each cold war on her own.

He’d always assumed she would never leave.

But never leaving didn’t mean never hurting.

He suddenly didn’t dare to think about what Emma must have felt when she found out he knew how to make things right with Chloe—just not with her.

Daniel let out a breath and closed the closet.

His phone screen lit up. Two messages popped in.

He thought it was Emma. He opened them immediately—but they were from Chloe.

“Daniel, I think one of my outfits ended up in your suitcase.”

“Could you bring it over?”

Daniel remembered then. During the trip, Chloe had bought too much and couldn’t fit her clothes in her own luggage, so she’d asked if she could put some in his suitcase. He’d agreed without thinking.

But was that normal?

Daniel knew the answer. No. It wasn’t.

He’d already figured out where he went wrong. He just didn’t want to admit it. Couldn’t bring himself to.

He replied to Chloe.

“I’ll have someone drop it off.”

The message had barely sent when his phone started buzzing nonstop.

The group chat was blowing up—over a dozen messages in seconds. Before Daniel even tapped in, he could see his name coming up again and again.

“Daniel, look at the photos and video I just posted—is that Emma?”

“What’s going on with you and Emma?”

“Did Emma just marry someone else?”

When he saw that last message, Daniel’s frown deepened.

Married?

Emma married someone else?

What kind of joke was this?

It was just another cold war, same as always. This one just happened to last a little longer.

But when he tapped the video and saw who was in it, his pupils contracted sharply and his mind went completely blank.

In the video, Emma was wearing a white gown, her arm linked with the man beside her, going table to table greeting guests.

At first, Daniel told himself it might just be someone who looked like her. It might not be her.

But when he spotted Emma’s friends in the frame, that last scrap of denial shattered.

It was really Emma.

Emma, marrying someone else.

Messages kept flooding the group chat.

“Daniel, what the hell is going on?”

“How did Emma just get married? Today of all days.”

Today.

Daniel thought of the phone call at the airport.

The person had said the bride was greeting her guests.

He’d thought Emma was being petty, having someone say that to mess with him.

It wasn’t that at all.

The color drained from Daniel’s face, inch by inch. He gripped his phone so hard his knuckles went white, his breathing growing heavier and heavier, one single thought consuming his mind.

Emma married someone else.
