He Chose His Ex So I Chose My Empire Chapter 07
As I left the estate, I ran into Serena on the long driveway.
She rolled down her car window and smiled at me.
“Elara.”
“It’s so boring competing with you. Everything you fight so hard for, I always get first.”
She lifted her chin slightly, gesturing toward the main house.
“For example, your grandfather’s approval. And Liam’s attention.”
As if remembering something, her smile widened.
“Did you know? In college, Liam was the most unapproachable guy on campus. But for me, he’d spend an entire afternoon annotating my papers.”
“It was like that then, and it’s still like that now.”
I’d once fought with Liam over that article.
It had been written by Serena, and Liam had left a long, detailed comment on a professional website.
When I confronted him, he just frowned at me.
“Why are you always targeting her?”
Back then, I was shaking with anger but couldn’t get a single word out.
Yes.
Why was I targeting her?
I had only wanted my husband to be on my side.
Serena leaned a little farther out her window.
“You see? You can’t beat me.”
She lowered her voice, as if to twist the knife.
“The man you have now? I was his first for so many things.”
“Even his first kiss was mine.”
I looked at her smug face and, to my own surprise, I smiled.
I said nothing.
