When I returned to the foundation office, Serena had just ordered lunch for the entire department from the city’s most exclusive restaurant.
Exquisite lunch boxes covered the tables in the common area.
The team group chat was flooded with messages of thanks.
“Thank you, Serena! You’re amazing!”
“Working with Serena even upgrades our lunch game.”
Serena replied with a smiling emoji, then sent another message.
“Everyone’s worked so hard. The Legacy Initiative is about to launch. Let’s give it our all.”
The topic quickly shifted to Liam.
“Liam must have paid for this, right?”
“The man will spare no expense to make Serena happy.”
The young intern sounded envious.
“I heard Liam was crazy about Serena back in college.”
“Totally. Why else would he donate all that money to our foundation?”
Someone cautiously added, “But I thought I heard Liam was married.”
The discussion immediately kicked into high gear.
“Oh my God, then his wife must be Serena.”
“I think so too. He came back for the one he really wanted.”
