He Chose His Ex So I Chose My Empire Chapter 16
Amid a storm of flashbulbs and whispers, Liam pulled me out of the ballroom.
His grip was like iron, my wrist aching in his grasp.
I didn’t struggle.
Only when we reached the underground parking garage and the cold wind hit us did I violently wrench my hand free.
“Elara!”
I ignored him and walked toward my car.
In the rearview mirror, I saw him rushing after me, his face a mask of panic and urgency.
I hit the gas.
The white Porsche shot out of the garage and into the late-night Manhattan traffic.
His expression hardened, and he immediately turned and got into his black Bentley.
A moment later, his car was on my tail.
I pushed the speed limit.
He stayed right behind me.
In the end, we pulled into the villa’s garage one after the other.
I had just pushed my car door open when Liam rushed over and slammed it shut.
“Do you have any idea how dangerous that was?”
I finally looked up at him, my face a blank mask.
I didn’t answer. I just walked around the front of the car and headed for the house.
He followed me in.
The moment we were inside, he grabbed my arm from behind and spun me around.
“I can explain what happened with the board.” His breathing was ragged, his voice more unsteady than I’d ever heard it. “I never chose Serena.”
As if afraid I wouldn’t believe him, he added, “Elara, she and I…”
“I know.”
