I cut him off calmly.
Before, I would have broken down, would have questioned and accused him endlessly if he’d so much as spoken an extra word to Serena.
But now, I didn’t have the strength to care what, exactly, was between them.
I shook off his hand, walked to the bar, poured myself a glass of ice water, and downed it in one go.
Liam came to stand beside me.
His shadow fell over me, blanketing me.
“Elara,” he asked tentatively, “are you angry?”
I met his eyes.
The same eyes that had once followed his every move were now perfectly calm.
“No.”
His pupils contracted, and his breathing grew heavy.
“I can explain.”
I didn’t respond.
He just stood there, as if he didn’t know what to say next.
“Liam, you don’t need to explain.”
I finally spoke.
“I only have one request. Sign the divorce papers.”
The words hit him like a physical blow.
“I won’t.”
His voice was hoarse, laced with a hint of a plea.
“Elara, didn’t you love me? Why… why would you give up on me so easily?”
That single question ignited all the anger I’d been suppressing.
I raised my hand and smashed the glass on the floor.
The sound was sharp and piercing.
“Easily?” I looked at him, my voice trembling. “Liam, what right do you have to ask me that?”
