He Chose His Ex So I Chose My Empire Chapter 19
“Because you were there.”
I stared at him, unconvinced.
Liam closed his eyes, turned, and strode out of the living room.
A few minutes later, he returned with a laptop and a document folder.
He set the laptop on the coffee table in front of me and opened an encrypted email.
“Look. This is the email I sent to the COO’s office. The attachment is a legally binding voting proxy. It clearly states that I transferred my voting rights to you, Elara.”
He then took the paper documents from the folder and laid them beside the laptop.
“Arthur Hayes made an assumption. He thought Serena was important to me, so he lied to curry favor.” He spoke quickly, urgently. “Tomorrow, I’ll have him come and explain everything to you himself.”
He braced his hands on the coffee table and leaned toward me.
For the first time, I saw something close to desperation in his eyes.
“Elara, why won’t you believe me?”
I laughed out loud.
The sound was uglier than crying.
“Believe you?”
“How am I supposed to believe you?”
I looked up at him, my questions like daggers. “At that charity auction, when you knew I was bidding on that painting but you raised your paddle for Serena, how was I supposed to believe you?”
“When you appeared with her at that private club, and the pictures were all over social media, how was I supposed to believe you?”
“Liam, everything you have ever done told me that you would always choose her first.”
“And now you want me to look at one email and forget all of that?”
