He Deceived Me So I Destroyed His Family’s Legacy Chapter 04
I laughed until tears streamed down my face.
“Punish him?”
“How? Freeze his credit cards? Ban him from a few clubs?”
“What good will that do?”
Adrian frowned slightly.
“Nora.”
“This is the situation.”
“Making a scene won’t help anyone.”
My heart fell like a stone.
“This is the situation?”
He loosened his grip on me slightly and lifted a hand to smooth my disheveled hair.
“Lily is already carrying Julian’s child.”
“And her health is this poor.”
“If she loses the medical care the Blackwoods are providing, how do you expect her to survive?”
“I’ll have Julian marry her. That way, you and your sister can still be together. Wouldn’t that be for the best?”
My body went rigid.
Julian let out a sneer.
“Adrian, I’m not getting married. I’m not done having fun.”
Adrian shot him a cold glare.
“Shut up.”
Julian’s face darkened with resentment, but he fell silent.
The room was suddenly quiet.
I looked at Adrian.
“You tricked me into this family and forced me to carry a child for Vanessa.”
“And you let your brother do this to Lily.”
“Adrian, when will you be satisfied? When there’s nothing left of us to use?”
His face hardened.
“Nora, watch your mouth.”
“The Hales have no one left to protect you.”
“If I really wanted to destroy you, why would I still be paying to keep Lily alive?”
I stared at him, bewildered.
“So I’m supposed to thank you for that, too?”
Adrian sighed.
“You don’t need to be sarcastic.”
“I know you can’t accept this right now.”
“But if you keep making trouble, I’ll have Lily transferred to a private facility out of state.”
From the bed, Lily heard him and panicked.
She struggled to grab my sleeve.
“Nora.”
“Please.”
“Don’t let them take me away.”
It felt like my heart was being carved from my chest.
I looked down at her.
She was nothing but skin and bones.
Her eyes were wide with terror.
The fire in my chest burned away the last of my reason.
When I looked up, my eyes landed on the medical scissors on the nightstand.
For the first time, Adrian lost his composure.
“Nora, put that down!”
I pressed the scissors to my throat and said, word by word, “Let Lily and me go.”
Julian laughed.
“Nora, who are you trying to scare?”
“You think we care if you live or die?”
My fingers trembled.
Adrian’s face was grim.
“Julian, shut your mouth.”
Julian looked unimpressed.
“Fine. I’ll marry her, all right?”
Adrian nodded and called the house manager in.
“Tell the lawyer to prepare a prenuptial agreement. Then schedule an appointment for the marriage license.”
A harsh buzzing filled my head.
“What do you mean?”
He avoided my eyes.
“Julian may be reckless, but he’s still a Blackwood.”
“If he’s willing to marry Lily, at least she’ll have legal protection.”
“It’s better than having all of New York whispering about her.”
Lily began to tremble even harder.
She clutched my sleeve in a death grip.
“I don’t want that.”
Tears welled in my eyes.
The smile faded from Julian’s face.
“Lily, you’re being naughty again.”
Lily froze.
She hurriedly released my sleeve and pulled at the corners of her mouth, trying desperately to smile.
“Julian, I’ll be good.”
“Don’t be angry.”
I couldn’t take it anymore. I turned the scissors on Julian.
“And you think you deserve to be appeased?”
“Julian, my sister deserves the best man in the world.”
“Not an animal like you who only knows how to prey on the weak.”
The smile on his face finally cooled.
“Nora.”
“You can curse me all you want.”
“But pointing scissors at me? That’s a different story.”
He started toward me.
I didn’t back down.
Adrian frowned.
“Julian.”
But Julian acted as if he hadn’t heard. His gaze sharpened, and he lunged for the scissors in my hand.
I refused to let go.
In the struggle, I slashed his face.
He swore in pain and shoved me hard.
I slammed into the sharp corner of the table behind me.
A dull ache exploded in my side.
Then, a sharp cramp seized my lower abdomen.
Lily was half-delirious, but she was still murmuring,
“Don’t hit Nora.”
“Please.”
Adrian caught me.
“Nora, you’re pregnant. Calm down.”
“I told you I’d handle Julian.”
“This isn’t solving anything.”
I was shaking with rage.
“Then what do you want me to do?”
“Kneel and thank the Blackwoods for sparing my sister and me?”
Adrian didn’t answer.
Julian gave a contemptuous laugh.
“You think you’re safe just because you’re pregnant?”
“You really think Adrian can’t stand to lose you?”
“If the baby’s gone, we can make another.”
“If you die, it just means a little more money for a funeral.”
The scissors nearly slipped from my hand.
Then Lily suddenly clutched her stomach and curled in on herself.
“It hurts…”
“Nora, it hurts…”
My face changed instantly. I threw the scissors aside and rushed to her.
“Lily!”
A nurse hurried off to get the doctor.
Julian took half a step back and frowned.
“She worked herself up. This has nothing to do with me.”
Lily was barely conscious, but she still managed to murmur,
“Nora, just go.”
“Leave me here.”
It felt like my chest was being ripped open.
“No.”
“I’m taking you with me.”
Adrian said in a low voice, “You’re not taking her anywhere.”
I whipped my head around.
He stood in the dim light, his expression unreadable.
“She can’t be moved right now.”
“If you really care about her, you’ll stop agitating her.”
I stared at him.
“So what?”
“I just leave her here? Let her keep suffering?”
Adrian was silent for a moment.
“I’ll assign more caregivers and more security.”
“From now on, Julian is not allowed in this room without my permission.”
Julian’s face twisted.
“Adrian!”
Adrian gave him a cold look.
“Get out.”
Julian clenched his jaw and turned to leave.
But at the door, he looked back and smiled at Lily.
“Take care, sweetheart.”
“I’ll come see you again soon.”
Lily shuddered violently and fainted.
I collapsed at her bedside, crying so hard no sound came out.
Adrian put a hand on my shoulder.
“Nora, don’t get hysterical.”
“You’re still carrying a child.”
