He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 38
He stared at me for a long time, then signed the papers.
As I stood to leave, he said suddenly, “Rowan never used to come back.”
I stopped.
“What?”
“After he left home, no matter how hard things got for him, he never came back to me for help. For that investment, he came to me.”
“I know.”
“And you’re not moved by that?”
I looked at the man who shared Rowan’s eyes and brow.
“Being moved doesn’t make a wrong choice the right one. If he wants to be a doctor, he should be in a hospital.”
“And the company?”
“That’s between you and him.”
I picked up the signed payoff agreement.
“And he should be the one to give you his answer.”
When I left the building, I sent Rowan a photo of the document.
*Investment repaid in full.*
He didn’t reply for a long time.
I had just reached the corner when my phone finally rang.
“Liv.”
“Are you upset?”
“No.”
His voice was a little rough.
“I just… I finally understand that you never needed me to buy you a path to success.”
“You’re only just getting that?”
“I’m sorry.”
“You can skip the apology. Come to the theater tonight.”
“Why?”
“Jenna rented the empty office next door. We’re starting a new development project to workshop plays by emerging writers who don’t have funding.”
I looked down at the payoff agreement in my hand.
“The first round of seed money is coming from our own box office revenue.”
He said softly, “Congratulations.”
“Thank you.”
“Can I come see it?”
“Buy a ticket.”
“Okay.”
