He Let Me Bleed So I Let Him Go Chapter 12

Dante had his deputy bring him every call and message log Bianca had handled over the past week.

The deputy read them off, one by one.

Several had come from the same private clinic.

Dante’s face changed.

He drove to the command center himself and yanked open the drawer where Bianca kept his files.

Inside were the usual authorizations, district reports, and correspondence she sorted for him.

He flipped deeper into the stack, and his hand froze.

Two documents, both bearing his signature.

A divorce agreement.

An application to withdraw from the De Luca family protection roster.

When had he signed these?

It took him a long moment to remember.

Bianca, coming into a meeting with a stack of papers, saying a few routine authorizations had been missed. He’d trusted her. He’d been in a hurry. He had signed them without a second glance.

Dante’s fingers went numb.

He kept flipping through the papers.

A clinic examination form was tucked between two reports.

Name: Elena Marino.

In the diagnosis field: *Early pregnancy, approx. 6 weeks.*

Dante went rigid.

She had been pregnant.

That wasn’t just a child.

That would have been the first registered heir of the De Luca family, the one thing that would have silenced anyone who ever dared to call Elena an outsider.

And he had known nothing.

Bianca had never told him.

Dante swallowed hard, his knuckles white as he turned to the next page.

Hospitalization record.

Procedure: Termination of pregnancy.

The date was just a few days ago.

At the time, Bianca had told him only, “Elena went to the clinic for a small issue. Nothing serious.”

Dante closed his eyes.

The memory of that day came rushing back.

He had been about to go to the clinic.

But Bianca had caught his sleeve.

“Elena’s just having a checkup. She’ll be home soon. Today is our ten-thousandth day. It’s the liaison’s first official appearance. If the Don leaves halfway through, everyone will think the truce is failing.”

So he had stayed.

After the gathering, he had seen Elena’s message about ending the marriage.
