He Married Another So I Accepted My Arranged Husband Chapter 28

The color drained from Salvatore’s face.

“That’s not what I meant.”

“I know it’s too late for anything I say to matter.”

He pushed the ring across the table toward me.

“But I think about it every day—if I hadn’t answered Talia’s call that day—”

“You would have,” I cut him off.

“Not because that one call was so important.”

“But because you had already made me wait eight times before.”

His eyes reddened instantly.

I lowered my head, pretending to check the transfer amount.

“Salvatore, you always talk about the last time as if it was some terrible accident.”

“But for me, it was just the inevitable result of the first eight.”

He was silent for a long time.

Finally, he picked up the pen and signed his name.

“I’ve already turned over everything that was left of Northstar’s equity.”

“The Ferraro family won’t let me participate in core business anymore, either.”

“From now on, I have nothing.”

“That’s your future.”

I signed my own name and closed the file.

“It has nothing to do with me.”

He suddenly reached out, his hand pressing down on the document.

“Do you really love Desmond?”

I raised my eyes to meet his.

Once, I would have given him a serious answer.

I would have tried to explain how a marriage began, why I made the choice I did, maybe even tried to convince him it wasn’t for revenge.

Now, the question just felt empty.

“That’s between him and me.”

“You don’t have the right to ask.”

My adviser came in from outside and took the signed document away.

At last, Salvatore let go.

When I stood up to leave, the engagement ring was still on the table.

“Indigo.”

His voice was very soft.

“If I had acknowledged your half of the equity sooner… would things have ended differently?”

I didn’t turn back.

“You didn’t lose me because of an agreement.”

“You lost me when you kept asking me to make way for someone else, and then stood in front of a room full of people and said you had no relationship with me.”

The door closed behind me.

It was the last time we ever saw each other.

Later, I heard he had left the ring at the club.

No one kept it for him.

And no one ever went back to claim it.
